関係代名詞とは
関係代名詞は、2つの文を1つにつなぐ働きをします。名詞を詳しく説明するときに使います。

主な関係代名詞：

ポイント：
・who = 人専用
・which = 物・動物専用
・that = 何でもOK（会話でよく使う）

This is a book which is very popular.
これはとても人気のある本です。
I have a cat that likes fish.
私は魚が好きな猫を飼っています。

文のつなぎ方
関係代名詞を使って2つの文を1つにする手順を学びましょう。
名詞 + 関係代名詞 + 動詞 …
手順：
①共通する名詞を見つける
②2つ目の文の主語を関係代名詞に変える
③1つ目の文の名詞の後ろにつなげる
例：
① I have a friend. + He lives in Tokyo.
② 共通する名詞：a friend = He
③ He → who（人なので）
④ I have a friend who lives in Tokyo.

whose（所有を表す）
whoseは「〜の」という所有を表す関係代名詞です。
名詞 + whose + 名詞 + 動詞 …

使い方：
・Her/His/Their → whoseに変える
・whoseの後ろには必ず名詞が来る

関係代名詞の省略
関係代名詞が目的語の働きをするときは、省略できます。
省略なし

省略あり
This is the book I bought yesterday.
（これは私が昨日買った本です。）
（これは私が昨日買った本です。）
省略できる場合：
関係代名詞の後ろに主語 + 動詞が続くとき
見分け方：
✓ 省略できる：the book that I bought（主語+動詞）
✗ 省略できない：the book that is interesting（すぐ動詞）

注意：
・who/which/thatは省略できる
・whoseは省略できない
